Line and Copy Editing

Line and copy editing are two key steps in polishing your writing. Line editing focuses on the style, flow, and clarity of your sentences—it's about how your writing sounds and whether your ideas come across smoothly. This can include improving word choice, rephrasing awkward phrasing, and making sure your tone is consistent. Copy editing, on the other hand, deals with the technical side: grammar, spelling, punctuation, and consistency in formatting or style. It ensures everything is correct and aligned with any style guide you're using. Together, these editing services help your writing shine—both in how it's written and how it reads.

Developmental
Edits

Developmental editing is the big-picture stage of editing that helps shape your work from the ground up. It focuses on the structure, content, and overall organization of your writing. A developmental editor looks at how your ideas are developed, whether your message is clear, if the structure makes sense, and if anything important is missing or needs to be cut. This type of editing often involves rearranging sections, strengthening arguments or storylines, and offering feedback to improve flow and clarity at a foundational level. It’s ideal for early drafts and is all about helping you build a strong, coherent piece before polishing the details.

Proofreading

Proofreading is the final step in the editing process, focusing on catching small mistakes before your work is published or shared. A proofreader checks for typos, spelling errors, missing words, incorrect punctuation, and formatting issues. Unlike other types of editing, proofreading doesn't change the content or style—it's about making sure everything looks clean, correct, and professional. It's the last quality check to ensure your writing is error-free and ready to go.

Manuscript
Assessment
.png)
A manuscript assessment is essentially a beta read with an editor’s eye. In the first quarter of the manuscript, expect detailed in-line comments on habits that may affect the story throughout (like passive voice) so that you may go into your own edits with a better understanding of where to start. We will also give examples of where sensory description, introspection, clearer goals etc., may strengthen a scene. The assessment comes with an editorial letter summarizing our overarching thoughts about the story structure, world, characters, and prose itself. Throughout the entire manuscript, we will give our reader reactions, so you have an idea how your intention is coming through the page.

10k editing is a copy and line edit but for only the first 10,000 words of your manuscript. With a 10k edit we aim to provide you with a discounted edit that will leave you with the tools you need to finish the job. With this service, expect everything listed under line and copy editing but the margin comments will be used to teach you how to do it yourself.
Word of mouth ensures authors get bookish services they know they can trust! When you refer a friend and they book with us, both of you get a 10% discount on your next edit!

Outline
Assessment

An outline assessment focuses on the structure and development of your story before you dive into writing—or before major revisions. This service reviews your plot outline, character arcs, pacing, and overall story structure to ensure everything is cohesive and compelling. It helps identify issues like plot holes, weak character motivations, uneven pacing, or missing conflict. Whether you're in the early planning stages or reworking a draft, an outline assessment gives you clear, actionable feedback to strengthen your story’s foundation and make the writing process more efficient.
